I see a lot of “coaches” put up cues about movement and nutrition. I thought it might be cool to start helping other coaches and each other with cues and tips to become a better coach!

I had an athlete ask me “what kid of pull ups?” Now that’s a great question.... also made a light go off 💡 that’s a disconnect between the athlete, program, and coach 🤦🏽‍♂️ this is where I said “if you can’t do strict pull ups then no other type.” He said “ok” then we parted so he can get ready for his workout. I think we have to explain a little more and educate more than 3.2.1.go! They don’t need the nerdy jargon you’re 100% correct. That’s why I think you give it to them in their words. Don’t leave anything out. Aligning clients with their goals at the same time with what they NEED more so than what they want is an art you have to master. Ask any old timer (no offense 🙏🏽) what their ultimate goal is with any fitness program? They will respond with “I want to be as fit as I can” which does not require killing pull ups, snatching 300#’s, or a sub 2 min Fran time. Yes, those seem cool & fun. But you know what’s not cool and fun, getting fkn hurt and decreasing the expectancy of their bodies. Moving well requires MOVING WELL. It’s simple in a complicated way. Learn it, earn it, and execute with purpose. If you align yourself with what you need and practice good sleep hygiene, food hygiene, and learning how to optimize resting you’ll be amazed at how your body will react. Lastly , REST days .... treat them like a WORKOUT TOO! Learn how to meditate, activate, and facilitate recovery by practicing recovery methods! It’s NOT boring it’s very very damn beneficial! Don’t plan your workout days around your rest day, plan your rest day[s] around your lifestyle! You don’t have to spend countless hours in the gym to achieve results. You have to spend purposeful hours mastering, learning, moving, and creating an optimal you! It takes time don’t rush it. So today go write your goals down short term, long term and prioritize around a healthy lifestyle. Build non-dependent relationships with your clients. Autonomy comes from confidence, and you can achieve this by giving them what they need and progressing them correctly so they win! If you beat them into the ground, they will depend on you to dig them out, why? Because it’s your doing. So as the legend @jfitzopex would say “we owe it to fitness” so go, be a great coach, be open minded, surround yourself with better coaches and teach more, learn more, move more, create more.
